Profile

Infrastructure and operations leader with four decades in internet services and financial markets. I have owned an £80m+ annual operating budget across fourteen data centres in nine countries, hired and led organisations of 150+, founded an ISP and grown it from twenty customers to thousands over eighteen years before selling it, and run mission-critical trading platforms across three continents. I came up through the machine room rather than the boardroom, so I can set the strategy, negotiate the carrier contract and sign off the budget — then still read the packet capture at 3am when it matters. I treat every project as a business unit: tight fiscal control, clear ownership, and a team that is properly hired, properly equipped and properly trusted.

Selected achievements

  • Ran European operations at scale. 14 data centres, 9 countries, 150+ operational staff and an £80m+ annual operating budget as Head of European Operations at Redbus Interhouse PLC — launching six new sites and turning the loss-making Paris subsidiary profitable.
  • Built and exited an ISP. Founded Fido.Net in 2001 with fewer than twenty customers and grew it into a UK ISP serving thousands, running its own network on AS8282 and AS9179 with LINX ConneXions at every site. Sold the business in 2019.
  • Scaled a trading platform through IPO. Re-architected the Interactive Investor IP platform, taking the site from ~3,000 hits per day to over one million billable impressions per day, and delivered in-house share trading in London and Hong Kong through to LSE flotation.
  • Operated at consumer scale. Ran Demon Internet's mail platform for 100,000+ paying customers and rebuilt technical support from five part-timers on 10–10 cover into a full 24×7 department.
  • Still building. Three businesses shipping today — FXRM (UK hosting), Tula Networks (load balancing) and Amperlo (EV cost tracking) — all on production Laravel, Proxmox, Zimbra and HAProxy infrastructure I designed and still operate.
